Clene
Continental - “Rooster” (1972-2003) Officially, Clene Continental, AQHA # 860339, was a black gelding by NRHA Hall of Fame sire Continental King and a grandson of AQHA Hall of Fame sire King P-234. He was the 1975 NRHA Futurity Open Champion, earning 6 AQHA points in Reining and $8,545 in NRHA earnings. Unofficially, he was called “Rooster”, and after his showing days were over he went to live with Chris for some 20 years. He was partly riding friend and companion, partly babysitter, partly counselor, and partly pasture ornament, but always a delight to be around. Rooster always knew where he needed to be and when he needed to be there, and never failed to do whatever was asked of him. As late as 2002 he was still very sound, and our daughter entered and rode him in Western Pleasure at a horse show that summer. |
On the night of February 15, 2003, at the ripe old age of 31, Rooster suffered a fall outside the barn which led to a paralysis in his hindquarters. After several efforts throughout the night and next day failed to get him standing again on his own (including lifting with cargo straps and a front-end loader), hopes had reached their end and the decision was made to put him down. He was buried in the pasture where he had wandered about, happy and content, in his last days.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, it goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
