Sheep and Goats

In addition to our horses, we have also worked at the Lucky G with sheep and goats. We purchased our first sheep in 2002 as part of a plan to manage weeds and other growth along our fence lines and in the hilly and wooded areas of our pastures. The breed we chose to work with is known today as the American Blackbelly, a breed of hair sheep we chose for several reasons:
To make room for an expansion of our horse breeding program, we decided in September 2007 to sell off our flock of sheep. We gained very valuable knowledge and experience from our work with the Blackbellies, and may establish another flock in the future. |
Our oldest son has been involved with the local 4-H livestock group showing goats since 2003, and has been improving his skills with every show he attends.

Our younger son tried his hand at showing a goat for the first time in 2007.
Although he didn't do very well in his class, he learned a lot during the year
thanks to lots of coaching from his brother!
